Das Duo Matthéi Theede ist das einzige feste und international konzertierende Duo der jungen Generation in der Besetzung für Flöte und Klavier. Die Presse beschrieb das Ehepaar als „Spitzenduo“, „in vollkommener Harmonie“ mit dem „Mut zur Expressivität“, seinen „hinreißenden Schwung und die Vitalität des Vortrags“, seine „überragende Interpretation“ sowie die „hervorragenden solistischen Qualitäten“ der beiden Musiker. Seit 2000 konzertiert es weltweit. Die in Paris geborene Flötistin Christina Matthéi und der aus Flensburg stammende Pianist Michael Theede lernten sich 1999 während ihres künstlerischen Studiums an der Musikhochschule Lübeck kennen und gründeten dort das Duo Matthéi Theede. Zusätzlich zu ihrem solistischen Studium studierten die beiden Musiker gemeinsam Kammermusik bei Prof. Angela Tetzlaff-Firkins und Prof. Manfred Fock an der Musikhochschule Lübeck. Sein Debütkonzert gab das Duo 2000 in Hamburg im Rahmen des internationalen Hamburger Kulturprogramms „danmark til hamborg“. Seitdem erhielt es Einladungen zahlreicher Konzertreihen, trat mehrmals beim Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival im Fernsehen auf und unternahm Konzertreisen in zahlreiche Länder Europas, Asiens, Afrikas, Nord-, Mittel- und Südamerikas. Einer der Höhepunkte hierbei war sein Debüt in der Preston Bradley Hall in Chicago (USA).
Die Konzerte des Duos Matthéi Theede zeichnen sich durch eine prägnante Moderation der Musiker sowie eine innovative und sehr mitreißende Programmgestaltung aus. Entsprechend umfasst das aus über 70 Werken bestehende Repertoire des Duos nicht nur die üblichen Kompositionen für diese Besetzung, sondern eine Mischung aus Bekanntem und Unbekanntem, aus Classic Highlights, Raritäten, Jazz und sogar auch wirkungsvollen Bearbeitungen von für andere Instrumente komponierten Werken vom Barock bis zur Neuen Musik, sodass diese Besetzung in interessant abwechslungsreicher Farbigkeit dargeboten wird. Seine aktuelle CD „CANZONE“, die vom Klassiklabel „ARS Produktion“ veröffentlicht wurde, enthält Werke von Andersen, Saint-Saens, Godard, Barber, Taktakishvili und Khatchaturian. In den Jahren 2008 bis 2011 unternahm es Konzertreisen u.a. auch nach Dubai, Vereinte Arabische Emirate, Jemen, Oman, Jordanien und Ägypten. Für die Saison 2011/2012 sind Konzertreisen durch Mittel- und Südamerika sowie Europa geplant, für die Saison 2012/2013 u.a. ihr Debüt in New York (USA).
The Duo Matthéi Theede is the only permanent flute and piano duo of the younger generation regularly performing internationally. The press has described the couple as “top duo”, “in consummate harmony” with the “boldness to be expressive”, the “captivating verve and vitality of the playing”, its “superb interpretation” as well as the “outstanding qualities as soloists” of the two musicians. The duo has been giving concerts all over the world since 2000. Flutist Christina Matthéi, born in Paris, and pianist Michael Theede from Flensburg first met in 1999 while studying the arts at Lübeck University of Music, founding the Duo Matthéi Theede there. In addition to studying as soloists, the two musicians together studied chamber music with Prof. Angela Tetzlaff-Firkins and Prof. Manfred Fock at the Lübeck University of Music. The Duo made its debut in Hamburg in 2000 in the course of the international Hamburg cultural programme “danmark til hamborg”. Since then it has received numerous invitations to tour, has several times appeared on television from the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and has made numerous concert tours in many countries of Europe, Asia, Africa as well as North, Central and South America. One of the highlights was its debut in the Preston Bradley Hall in Chicago (USA). Concerts by the Duo Matthéi Theede are notable for fascinating commentary from the two musicians as well as innovative and indeed enthralling programme choice. Comprising over 70 works, the Duo’s repertoire thus includes not only the usual compositions for this combination, but a mix of known and unknown works, of Classical highlights, rarities, Jazz and even some effective arrangements of works composed for other instruments, extending from Baroque to Contemporary music, enabling this combination to feature in an enthrallingly variety of colouration. Released by the ARS Produktion classical label, “CANZONE”, the Duo’s latest CD, features works by Andersen, Saint-Saens, Godard, Barber, Taktakishvili and Khachaturian. Between 2008 and 2011 the Duo made concert tours to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Oman, Jordan and Egypt, among other places. For the 2011/2012 season further tours are planned through Central and South America as well as Europe, while the 2012/2013 season will include its New York debut.
